Privacy Policy — zimux
Last updated: 10 July 2026
zimux ("the app", "we", "us") is a terminal emulator and file manager for Android. This Privacy Policy explains what data the app handles and how. By using zimux you agree to this policy.
Summary
- zimux does not collect, transmit, or sell any personal data.
- There are no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking SDKs.
- Everything you do — files, terminal sessions, installed packages — stays on your device.
Data We Collect
None. zimux does not create an account, does not ask for your identity, and does not send your files, commands, keystrokes, or usage statistics to us or to any server we control. We have no servers that receive your data.
On-Device Data
The following data is stored only locally on your device and is never uploaded by the app:
- Files and folders you browse, create, copy, move, extract, or delete with the file manager.
- Terminal sessions and the Linux environment (e.g. the Ubuntu rootfs installed via proot/chroot), including any files, packages, and command history you create inside it.
- App settings (theme, language, view options, remembered "open with" choices) saved in the app's private storage.
You can remove this data at any time by deleting the relevant files, clearing the app's storage, or uninstalling the app.
Permissions
zimux requests only the permissions it needs to work:
- Storage / Manage all files (
MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE,READ/WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE) — to let the file manager and terminal read and write files you choose. Files are accessed locally and never uploaded. - Internet & network state (
INTERNET,ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE) — used only when you ask for it: downloading a Linux distribution (rootfs), installing packages with tools likeapt, or when you run network commands (e.g.curl,git,ssh) inside the terminal. zimux itself sends no data. - Install packages (
REQUEST_INSTALL_PACKAGES) — to let you install packages/APKs you explicitly open. - Notifications (
POST_NOTIFICATIONS) and foreground service (FOREGROUND_SERVICE,FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNC) — to show progress for long-running file operations (copy, extract, archive) so the system does not interrupt them.
Network & Third Parties
zimux has no backend of its own. When you download a Linux distribution or install packages from within the terminal, your device connects directly to the third-party servers you request (for example, distribution or package mirrors). Those connections are subject to the privacy policies of whoever operates those servers. zimux does not add tracking to these requests.
Children
zimux is a general-purpose developer tool and is not directed at children. It collects no personal data from anyone, including children.
Security
Because your data never leaves your device through the app, its security depends on your device's own protections (lock screen, encryption, etc.). Please keep your device secure and be careful when granting the app storage access or running commands from untrusted sources.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted at the URL where this policy is published, with an updated "Last updated" date.
